Colchester DIA is a local professional association supporting Instructors’ and their pupils. Our aim is to make learning to drive easier, more professional and to assist those experiencing problems. The Association meets quarterly – with officers meeting as often as is necessary to keep the local driving instructors ticking over!
Mark was first elected to the committee in 2007 and served as Liaison Officer, making the job his own. He plunged into working closely with ECC Highways dept – improving road signs, lines and helping to coordinate road safety initiatives around the district. Mark met with Essex Police officers to help manage buses parking on zebra crossings on Lexden Road – reducing risk to schoolchildren. In 2011, Mark was part of a delegation that travelled to Nottingham to meet with Rosemary Thew – the then CEO of the Driving Standards Agency.
In 2016, Mark was elected Chairman of Colchester DIA – following the sad death of Chris Barnett – the former Chairman. Since being elected, Mark has continued to press local politicians to do more to reduce road collisions and improve road maintenance standards.
